Week in Review: August 1-7, 2010

Despite the near-apocalyptic rains, this past Thursday marked the second successful installment of the Connectors’ Corner series, hosted by Boston World Partnerships.  The connectors Jane Devlin (@usworkvisas), Jeanne Dasaro (@jeannedasaro), Matt Goldstein(@mattygold) and John Silva (@Aristarch) – plus a few others – immediately integrated into the Venture Cafe scene without even an announcement or introduction.  The Connectors, with the help of BWP organizers Yoon Lee and Paola Mesadieu spoke with aspiring entrepreneurs like Jan Flac, a visiting student from Slovenia hoping to establish his start-up in Boston, Venture Cafe regulars like Shaun Scovil of Cross Trade Ventures and those who came in to meet the Connectors. Topics of conversation ranged from social enterprise to the tech environment in Boston and Cambridge.

To round out a successful Thursday, Sarah Merion of BostInnovation joined us to see the Cafe setup, inquire about the Venture Cafe’s future plans and meet some of our regulars. Here’s a link to her article, titled “Venture Cafe Planning to Serve Up a Brand New Spot for StartUpers to Meet and Mingle” (Source: BostInnovation, 6 August 2010).

Remember, NEVCA has taken the month of August off so they won’t be joining us next week, but stay tuned for information about our upcoming events, and don’t forget to check our Google Calendar!
