Carrie Stalder – Carrie is the Founding Manager of Venture Café. She is an engineer finishing an SM in Engineering and Management at MIT and holds a BS Eng. from Caltech. She is passionate about making meaningful connections across networks. She has worked in astronomical instrument development, construction management, and the defense industry, as well as for Caltech’s prestigious faculty club, The Athenaeum. Timothy Rowe - Tim Rowe serves as chief advisor and chairman for Venture Cafe. He is President of the Kendall Square Association and the Founder and CEO of Cambridge Innovation Center (www.cictr.com). In addition, Tim is a Venture Partner and member of the investment committee of New Atlantic Ventures. Tim holds an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management and a BA from Amherst College.
Ert Dredge – Ert Dredge has been developing web sites since 1994, working in fields as varied as the Human Genome Project, political podcasting, personal ad sites, and networked consumer electronics. He is an alumnus of Cambridge companies Art Technology Group and Ambient Devices and also San Francisco’s PlanetOut. When not leading the Venture Café’s tech group, you can find him at his own startup, Universal Metaphor, which is working to ease your commute, so long as you’re a public transit aficionado as he is. He holds degrees in Software Engineering and Biology from M.I.T. and the University of Houston.
Matthew Glidden - Matthew Glidden promotes the Venture Cafe via camera and microphone, capturing personal start-up stories and business anecdotes. A lover of Kendall Square, he’s worked here as developer and program manager since 2000 and now specializes in mending broken software teams. Matt Hodgson – Matt has spent the last few years involved in a wide array of technical projects ranging from web applications to race car design to electronics hardware development. His defining strength is his ability to quickly understand and contribute to new ideas and technologies. Before Scenario4, Matt worked as a consultant for Mercator Partners, a Boston-area strategy and management consulting boutique. Hodgson holds a B.A. degree in physics from Ithaca College and both a Masters in Engineering Management and a B.E. in computer engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering and Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. When not hard at work, Matt enjoys sailing and snowboarding throughout New England.
Aubree Lawrence - Aubree is Part-time Faculty at Emerson College, where she received her M.A. in 2009 in Digital Media Studies. Her academic focus is on engaging new media tools to increase civic participation and augment the classroom-learning experience. Aubree joined the Venture Café effort in early 2009 and is delighted to still be a part of such an important project. In her spare time Aubree is an aspiring silversmith, pastry chef, and economist.
Liz Peyton – Liz Peyton is the Venture Cafe’s summer 2010 Operations Intern and a rising senior at Boston University, studying Cultural Anthropology. Liz takes care of setup and makes sure that events run smoothly every Thursday during the Venture Cafe hours. She will also maintain Venture Cafe’s social media outlets. Dharmishta Rood – Dharmishta Rood researches how and why people use technologies. In addition to helping plan all things Venture Café, she currently is a Research Assistant at HBS with Professor Norton, lead editor for Mozilla’s new initiative, Drumbeat.org, and a fellow at the Center for Future Civic Media. She holds a BA from UCLA in Design | Media Arts and an Ed.M. from Harvard. She blogs about online attention, communication media and social networks at dharmishta.com, and tweets @dharmishta.
Amy Tindell – Amy Tindell holds degrees from Dartmouth College (B.A., Cognitive Science), The University of Michigan (Ph.D., Neuroscience), Boston College Law School (J.D.), and Drinkmaster Bartending School (Master Bartender). Prior to joining Venture Cafe, she practiced intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and litigation work across a range of technologies. Currently, Amy works with the MassChallenge Competition and Accelerator Program in addition to Venture Cafe to support entrepreneurs in developing their businesses. Colin Ulen – Colin has deep technical skills as a electronics engineer in hardware and firmware design, implementation and prototype and high volume manufacturing. He excels at system analysis and designing complex distributed computing capabilities. His strength is his thorough technical knowledge and breadth of experience along with an ability to convey it easily and understandably to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Prior to Scenario4, Colin worked as a Senior Device engineer at Alarm.com, a D.C. based commercial/residential security company and as Chief Architect for Youcastr, Inc, a Boston based video monetization platform. Ulen holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering with minors in Math and Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University and a Masters of Engineering Management from the Thayer School of Engineering and Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
